We’ve started a new major project that I am super excited about – finishing our basement bathroom. It’s project that has been on hold for a bit…uh, like almost 10 years. When we built our house in 2006, we knew we would finished the basement when time and finances allowed – at the time I was 6 months pregnant and we were the proud owners of two homes – which was NOT the plan. So a few years past and finally with the blood, sweat and tears of the hubs and a few friends we managed to get the main areas of the basement finished with the basics – walls, carpet, venting, lighting, etc. During this long process of DIY while having now TWO small kids (power tools and dust do NOT mix well with sleeping babies), we lost steam to finish the bathroom.
Fast forward to 2015, some fresh ambition and plans for the basement bathroom started to unfold. But being a overachiever when it comes to projects like this, I couldn’t just let it be a boring-old, plain-Jane basement bathroom – it needed to be special, spectacular, phenomenal (insert image of super annoyed husband who is doing all the work here)! So the concept unfolded – and I couldn’t be more excited for it. The look is white, black and classic. White subway tiles in the shower, crisp white walls, an interesting black and white patterned tiled floor that is reminiscent of the encaustic tile look that I am in LOVE with (but cheaper – yay to that), and a vintage DIY vanity with a marble top will transform the space into a bright space from what was once a dark corner of the basement . Add in chrome fixtures and elements to add contrast to all the white, and it is the basement bathroom of my dreams. Can’t wait to get started – keep checking back to see the progress!
