The actual start of the Fall season is just around the corner (this Thursday to be exact). I know it’s hard to believe it’s not Fall already. Retailers have been trying to fool us into thinking it’s been here for the past two months (or more) already. While Summer will still always be my number one favorite season, and though it’s so, so hard to let go of summer, I can finally come around to admitting that the Autumn season is here . The temperatures have been getting cooler in the evenings, and there are even a few leaves changing color in my backyard. It’s not that I hate Autumn -in fact those changing leaves are one of the greatest parts of the season. No one (not even die hard Summer lovers like me) can deny the beauty that mother natures creates for us in the fall.

Personally, I think Fall just gets a bad wrap with me due to the fact that it starts down the path toward freezing cold and snowy Wisconsin winters. And our winters can be very long, and very cold. It makes me feel cold just thinking about. So while I don’t do much seasonal decorating, (besides during Christmastime) Fall really is the perfect season to add some warmer touches to your space – and by warmer, I mean making myself warmer in preparation for the inevitable long, cold winter. The best way to do this is to decorate with throw blankets. I love how a throw placed over a sofa, chair, bench or end of a bed can totally change the feel of a space and add a “seasonal” touch without your decorating looking too themed. Plus, its a total functional design element – as someone is bound to grab that throw and snuggle up on the couch or grab it to run outside to sit around the campfire.

There are plenty of great throws to choose from, but here are just a few different styles and materials to help inspire you.
Like I said, lots of great options. When searching for a good throw specifically for your fall decor however, try to avoid tightly woven cotton or cotton blend throws that can evoke a summery feeling. As for general style and color, stay away from bold stripes and nautical (blue and white), or bright beachy (yellow, teal, peach) colors – as those can signify spring or summertime as well. Instead, opt for chunky knit or wool throws that add to the warmth of a space and practically scream ‘snuggle up with me’! Bold buffalo plaid prints are a definite sign of the fall and are a fun addition to any space too. Fringy edges, bold geographic prints, or playful pom pom end add interest to a sold colored sofa or bed cover. Classic cashmere is also a great option and is super soft and cozy as well, but tend to come with a higher price tag. And of course, we can’t leave out the furry throw blanket – who could resist cuddling up under a faux fur animal print throw? Not me! Love those faux fur blankets!

Fall is in the air and it’s here to stay for awhile – so grab a throw, cuddle up and stay warm until spring!
